GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Tomcat women's volleyball team continued its tough non-conference schedule with a big win over a quality Mount Union team Friday at the Midwest Challenge in Grand Rapids, Mich. Coach Steve Brewer's squad followed the win with a loss to nationally ranked Calvin College.
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio, Cuyahoga Heights) tallied 11 digs and 35 assists in Thiel's 3-1 win over the Purple Raiders. The win came by scores of 28-26. 25-23. 9-25, 25-14. Four other Tomcats joined Chylik with double-digit digs, including
Danielle Dwyer (Dalton, Ohio, Dalton) (17),
Stephanie Shipley (Mentor, Ohio, Mentor) (15),
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio, Jackson-Milton ) (13) and
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio, Liberty) (11).
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland) was tops on the team with 15 kills.
Chine turned in a solid effort in the loss to ninth-ranked Calvin. The sophomore posted seven kills and 10 digs. Barzak had five kills while Kay and
Megg Andrews (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) toaled three kills apiece. Chylik finished with 19 assists. As a team, the Tomcats had 9.5 total blocks. The Knights won by scores of 25-19, 25-12, 25-18.
Thiel (2-2) will continue play in the Midwest Challenge Saturday against nationally-ranked Hope and Cornerstone.
