BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — The Thiel women's volleyball team came up just short of pulling off a great comeback in a 3-2 loss to Geneva on Tuesday.
The Tomcats fell behind 2-0 with 26-24 and 25-20 losses in the first two sets but responded with wins in the next two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-18.
The fifth and deciding set went down to the wire as the Golden Tornadoes pulled off the win, 15-13. Geneva improved to 14-2 with the win.
"It was a great match that could have gone either way," Thiel volleyball coach Steve Brewer said. "We made some adjustments after the second set and it worked for us. We just let them jump out early and we ran out of room. I'm very proud of the girls. It's tough coming back from down 2-0 and they almost pulled it off."
Jenna Samsa (Rittman, Ohio, Wadsworth) paced the Tomcats with 36 digs as the libero.
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio, Jackson-Milton ) tallied 13 kills and 12 digs while
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio, Liberty) finished with 15 kills and 19 digs.
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio, Cuyahoga Heights) had 44 assists and 18 digs.
Thiel (7-8) will play a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at Grove City on Thursday.
