Tomcats Bounce Back Strong With Two Wins at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio - Playing on the second day of the Pioneer Classic at Marietta College, the Tomcat women's volleyball team won a pair of matches to improve its record to 7-7 this season.

The Tomcats lost their opening match to Washington & Lee on Friday night but showed good resolve by bouncing back with wins over John Carroll and Marietta on Saturday.

In a four-set win over John Carroll, which included a dominating 25-8 win by Thiel in the third set, Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland) led the way with 14 kills Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio, Jackson-Milton ) tallied eight kills and 11 digs while Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio, Liberty) also had eight kills and added 12 digs. Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio, Cuyahoga Heights) finished with 35 assists and 20 digs.

Thiel followed the win over John Carroll with a sweep of host Marietta, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-15, 28-26. Chylik had another great match with 24 assists and six digs. Kay notched nine kills and eight digs, Barzak posted eight kills and Chine had seven kills while also adding 13 digs,

Chylik and Jenna Samsa (Rittman, Ohio, Wadsworth) were awarded for their effort in the three matches by being named to the all-tournament team.

The Tomcats will return to action Tuesday with an away match at Geneva.
