PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Thiel College women's volleyball team split two matches in Saturday's tri-match at Chatham University. The Tomcats defeated Chatham in three sets and were defeated by Thomas More in four sets.
Game one saw the Blue and Gold defeat the Chatham Cougars (2-9) in straight sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-15) to win their third straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. Junior outside hitter
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio, Liberty) led the Tomcats with ten kills and sophomore setter
Chelsea Meister (Liberty Center, Ohio, Liberty Center) had a team-high 16 assists in the three-set win over the Cougars.
Match two saw the Tomcat's fall to Thomas More (8-4) in four sets (21-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-16) and drop their season record to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the PAC. Senior setter
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio, Cuyahoga Heights) was at the top of her game as she recorded 42 assists and 28 digs.
Reigning PAC player of the week, sophomore middle hitter
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland), had 12 kills, senior setter
Stephanie Shipley (Mentor, Ohio, Mentor) had 25 digs and Kay added another solid performance with 13 kills and 14 digs. Even with solid all around play, Thomas More was able to end the Tomcats three-match winning streak.
The Blue and Gold's next match will be at home against PAC foe Westminster on September 22. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time.
