GREENVILLE, Pa. – Two members of the Thiel College women's volleyball team have been named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District II squad, the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Wednesday afternoon. Senior
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio, Cuyahoga Heights) was named to the first team for the second straight year while sophomore
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland) earned her first selection with third-team honors.
Chylik, an elementary education major with a 4.0 GPA and a six-time member of the Dean's List, is a four-year letterwinner in volleyball and a two-year letterwinner in softball. She is a five-time Presidents' Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll selection. In addition to her academic achievements, she is the Student Government representative for SAAC and a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an international society in education
Chylik has helped lead the Tomcats to their second straight 20-win season. Earlier this year she became the school's all-time leader in assists. Last season she was named to the first team on the All-PAC squad.
As a first team member, Chylik will be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The 2010 Academic All-America team will be announced on November 22.
Barzak, a two-sport star for Thiel with all-conference selections in both volleyball and basketball last season, carries a 3.53 GPA as an elementary education major. She finished the regular season as the Division III leader in hitting percentage and is currently Thiel's all-time leader in that category.
The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. To be nominated for the program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
The Tomcats will begin postseason play Friday in the semifinals of the PAC tournament at Thomas More.
