LATROBE – The Thiel College women's volleyball squad earned a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victories Saturday at a tri-match hosted by Saint Vincent College, defeating Waynesburg University 3-0 and host Saint Vincent 3-1.

Thiel (14-8, 6-2), winners of seven straight and nine of their last 10 matches, cruised to a three-set sweep (25-16, 25-19, 25-14) against the Yellow Jackets in their opener. Junior outside hitter Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio, Liberty) led the way with eight kills and 17 digs while sophomore middle hitter Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland) and senior setter Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio, Cuyahoga Heights) added six kills and 18 assists, respectively.

After dropping the opening set to the homestanding Bearcats 25-21, the Tomcats rattled off three-straight set wins (25-17, 25-20, 25-19) to earn the Saturday sweep. Kay once again paced the Tomcats as she recorded 17 digs and 14 kills, with eight of those kills coming in the victory-sealing fourth set. Sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio, Jackson-Milton ) posted 17 kills and nine digs while Barzak registered 13 kills. Chylik totaled 51 assists and 20 digs while freshman libero Jenna Samsa (Rittman, Ohio, Wadsworth) led the defensive effort with 40 digs.

“We started slow but really turned it on offensively. We also had a great defensive day with (Jenna) Samsa leading the way,” said Tomcat head coach Steve Brewer.

The Tomcats return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 12 against PAC rival Westminster College in New Wilmington at 7 p.m.
