Tomcats Sweep Yellow Jackets

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — The Thiel women's volleyball team made quick work of Waynesburg on Thursday night, sweeping the Yellow Jackets 25-11, 25-21, 25-18.

Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio, Liberty) led the Tomcats with 11 kills and 13 digs. Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland) added 13 kills while Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio, Cuyahoga Heights) and Jenna Samsa (Rittman, Ohio, Wadsworth) recorded 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

Stephanie Shipley (Mentor, Ohio, Mentor) finished with six digs in the win and is just two shy of 2,000 for her career. She is Thiel's all-time leader in that category.

With the win, the Tomcats improve to 20-10 overall and 10-2 in the conference. It is the second straight 20-win season for coach Steve Brewer's team.

The Tomcats are all alone in second place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with two matches left on the schedule. They can clinch second place and a first-round bye in the conference playoffs with a win or a Westminster loss.

The final two matches on the schedule will both be played at Beeghly Gymnasium. Thiel will host Saint Vincent for Senior Night on Saturday at 3 p.m. and will play conference-leading Thomas More on Sunday at 1 p.m.
