CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Tomcat women's volleyball team played a pair of matches Saturday, topping Chatham University in Presidents' Athletic Conference play before falling to Case Western Reserve University in a non-conference contest.
Junior outside hitter
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio, Liberty) had seven kills and 11 digs in Thiel's three-set win win over the Cougars. Senior
Stephanie Shipley (Mentor, Ohio, Mentor) registered 13 digs from the libero position to help the Tomcats win 25-19, 25-17, 25-14.
Shipley played as the defensive specialist in the loss to the Spartans and recorded 20 digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio, Jackson-Milton ) finished with 12 kills and 18 digs, sophomore outside hitter
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland) tallied 15 kills and freshman libero
Jenna Samsa (Rittman, Ohio, Wadsworth) chipped in with 30 digs. The Tomcats took the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-17 before dropping the next three 25-20, 25-19 and 15-8.
Thiel (18-10, 9-2) will play at Bethany College on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
