GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Grove City in four sets on Saturday at Beeghly Gymnasium in Greenville.
The Tomcats (16-8; 8-2 PAC) got off to a strong start as they won the first set 25-19. Thiel would remain in control as they won set two by a score of 25-14.
The Wolverines of Grove City (5-16; 2-8 PAC) battled back as they took set three 25-17, and the first set of the season against Thiel to cut the Tomcat lead to 2-1. However, Thiel would put Grove City away as they won the fourth set 25-16.
Junior outside hitter
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio, Liberty) led the offensive charge for the Tomcats as she totaled 17 kills. Sophomore middle hitter
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio, Howland) also added 13 kills and senior setter
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio, Cuyahoga Heights) added 47 assists on the day.
Defensively, the Blue and Gold were led by freshman libero
Jenna Samsa (Rittman, Ohio, Wadsworth) who had 30 digs in route to helping the Tomcats win their ninth consecutive match on the season, one shy of tying the all-time mark.
Thiel will continue PAC play on Tuesday October 19 as they travel to Washington & Jefferson. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
