Tomcats Notch First Ever Win at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON — Thiel avenged an earlier loss to Westminster in a dominant performance Tuesday night, sweeping the Titans by scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-18. It was the first-ever win for the Tomcats at Westminster.

Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio, Jackson-Milton ) was tops on the team in kills with 10 while also adding 10 digs. Stephanie Shipley (Mentor, Ohio, Mentor) paced the Tomcats in digs with 20 and Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio, Cuyahoga Heights) led in assists with 32. Also performing well were Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio, Liberty) with nine kills and 14 digs, Megg Andrews (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) with seven kills and five digs and Leanna Yeager (Poland, Ohio, Poland Seminary) with eight kills.

The Tomcats jumped out to an early lead in the first set, scoring the first six points and led 8-1 at one point. They never trailed in either the first or third sets. The two teams battled to an 8-8 tie in the second set before Thiel closed it out with a 17-8 run.

The Tomcats improve to 15-8 overall and 7-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The win moves them into sole possession of second place in the conference. Coach Steve Brewer's squad has won eight straight matches.

Thiel will return to action with a conference match against Grove City on Saturday, The match is set to start at 1 p.m. at Beeghly Gymnasium.
