BETHANY, W.Va. (Jan. 4, 2010) – Freshman
Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) notched his second consecutive double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Bethany Bison edged Thiel College, 72-69, in men's basketball action Monday night.
The loss drops the Tomcats to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play as they prepare for a two-game home stand. Bethany, on the other hand, improves to 9-3 and 3-0 in league play.
Once again, Thiel was forced to play a frantic brand of catch-up basketball and, once again, fell painfully short.
The Tomcats trailed by as many as 20 points in the first half before rallying to cut the lead to two with 27 seconds to play on a dunk by freshman
Aundra Jones (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic).
Forced to foul, Thiel sent Bethany's Joe Testa to the line where he sank a pair of free throws to reestablish a four-point Bison lead.
Two seconds later, Rozenblad hit a jumper to, once more, draw the 'Cats to within two, but they could get no closer.
In addition to Rozenblad, both Jones and
Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) reached double-digit scoring totals with 17 and 15 points, respectively.
Testa led Bethany with 22 points.
Thiel returns to action on Thursday when they welcome Waynesburg for an 8 p.m. bout.
