GROVE CITY, Pa. (Sept. 26, 2009) – The Thiel College women's volleyball team swept a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference contests Saturday afternoon, downing Waynesburg and the host Wolverines at Grove City College by, 3-0, margins.
In the day's first action, the Tomcats made quick work of the Yellow Jackets in three lopsided sets – 25-6, 25-8, and 25-17.
Freshmen
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson-Milton) and
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio/Howland) (Warren, Ohio/Howland) led the Blue and Gold offensive with 16 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) notched a team-high 36 assists in the match.
A trio of Thiel players provided a bulk of the Tomcats' defense, with
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) (Girard, Ohio/Liberty), Chylik, and
Danielle Dwyer (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) each reaching double-digit dig totals.
In the second match of the afternoon, Grove City provided slightly stiffer competition, but still succumbed to Thiel, 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-22).
Kay revved up her offensive game, firing a team-high 14 kills to go with 12 digs for the double-double.
Chine – who had 15 digs in the match – and Barzak rifled nine kills apiece.
Chylik once again paced the Tomcats in assists with 36.
Thiel (11-7; 2-1 PAC) returns to action on Saturday when they welcome Chatham and Bethany for a tri-match.
