WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2009) -- The Thiel College volleyball team dropped its Presidents' Athletic Conference opener at Washington & Jefferson Monday night by a gut-wrenching 3-2 (25-16, 14-25, 27-25, 15-25, 15-7) final.
Freshman
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio/Howland) (Warren, Ohio/Howland) paced the Thiel offensive by firing 19 kills, with sophomore
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) contributing a solid 17. Barzak also came up with a team-leading four blocks.
Junior
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Height) notched an outstanding 54 assists in the loss.
Defensively, Kay and Chylik stood out, notching 19 and 20 digs, respectively.
Thiel returns to the court on Saturday when it takes part in a PAC tri-match at Grove City College which will also feature the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets.
