WESTERVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 18, 2009) – The Thiel College volleyball won a pair of matches Friday to open up play at the Otterbein College Cardinal Classic. Thiel downed Ohio Wesleyan, 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-10), then went on to defeat Denison, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-18) to end day one of the tournament.
Against Ohio Wesleyan,
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson-Milton) and Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio/Howland) (Warren, Ohio/Howland) led the way for Thiel offensively, as they each fired eight kills.Chine also chipped in a team-high 13 digs, while Barzak registered three blocks.
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio / Liberty) contributed seven kills and 15 digs, and
Megg Andrews (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) (Canfield, Ohio / Canfield)rifled six kills to go with four blocks.
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) (Valley View, Ohio / Cuyahoga Heights)paced the Tomcats with 27 assists and eight digs.
Against Denison, Chine put together a 10-kill, 11-dig effort, while Barzak and Andrews had eight kills each. Chylik put up 30 assists, two kills and 15 digs.
Five Tomcats reached double digit digs in the day cap to go along with 10 team blocks.
