WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2009) – After opening tournament play with a winless day on Saturday, the Thiel volleyball team rebounded with a pair of wins over Penn State-Altoona and the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Sunday, culminating with the selection of
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) to the Washington & Jefferson Holiday INNvitational All-Tournament team.
In the day's opener, Chylik posted 42 assists to lead Thiel to a, 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 26-23), win over Penn State-Altoona. Freshman
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson-Milton) also starred by rifling a team-high 16 kills to go along with 15 digs.
Sophomore
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) had a solid day for the Tomcats as well, by firing 15 kills and coming up with 18 digs.
Junior
Danielle Dwyer (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) led Thiel with 28 digs in the match.
In their final game of the weekend, Thiel overpowered Pitt-Greensburg, 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-16), in a quick sweep.
Chine once again put in a strong effort, nailing 13 kills to go along with eight digs. Dwyer led Thiel with nine digs.
Freshman
Chelsea Meister (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) had a nice game as well, setting up 21 assists.
Thiel returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Geneva at 7 p.m.
