GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team closed out its regular season on Saturday with a, 71-50, loss to in-county rival Grove City. The setback closed out a disappointing year for the Tomcats, who enter the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament next week with a 2-22 record, including a 1-11 mark in the league.
Thiel junior
Nick Sefscik (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler) turned in a typically-solid performance, tossing in a game-high 19 points to go with six boards.
Cory Chaffee (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) led Thiel with eight rebounds.
Joe McCoy paced Grove City with 18 points.
The Wolverines made a living from outside the arc in the contest, converting at a 43.5 percent-clip. Grove City sank eight of 14 attempts from three-point land in the second half alone.
Tomcat seniors
Brandon Mirizio (West Middlesex, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) and
Keebo Dowe (Martinsburg, W. Va./Edison Twp.) were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
Thiel, the PAC's seven seed, will travel to second-ranked Bethany for the first round of the conference tournament.
