CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (Nov. 6, 2009) – The second-seeded Thiel College women's volleyball team advanced to the Presidents' Athletic Conference championship match with a, 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-20), victory over Westminster at the Connors Center on Friday evening.
Thiel (23-10) will now face the top-seeded Thomas More College Saints at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The Saints and Tomcats split their regular season meetings.
Westminster edged Thiel, 25-23, in the match's first set, but the Tomcats responded by reeling off three straight wins to down the Titans for the second time this season. Thiel's most impressive set of the night came in the second, as the Tomcats built an early lead and never looked back en route to a, 25-12, win.
Thiel had three players reach double digit kills, including freshman
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson-Milton) who fired a match-high 16.
Megg Andrews (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) registered 12, while
Abbey Kiger (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) and
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) each chipped in 10.
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) notched 48 of Thiel's 59 assists on the night.
Standout defensive efforts by
Danielle Dwyer (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) and Chine produced 27 and 22 digs, respectively. Kay (17) and Chylik (10) also hit double digit dig totals.
