Thiel earns first win of 2009-10 season vs. Penn State Beaver

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 21, 2009) – The Thiel College men's basketball team took the lead at the 11:54 mark of the first half on a Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) free throw and never looked back as the Tomcats cruised to a, 89-71, victory over Penn State Beaver at La Roche College on Saturday.
Adams would go on to score a game-high 21 points in addition to pulling down nine rebounds – also a game high.
In all, Thiel had five players score in double figures, including freshman Blair Rozenblad (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) who continued his early-season tear by scoring 18.
Aundra Jones (Youngstown, Ohio/Kennedy Catholic) came off the bench to score 13, while Sean Devinney (Arsenal, Pa./Central Catholic) (Arsenal, Pa./Central Catholic) and Cory Chaffee (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Thiel converted at a 45-percent clip from the floor in the contest, while out-rebounding their second-consecutive opponent, this time by a 37-to-30 margin.
The Tomcats – who lead by as many as 21 points in the second half – owned a, 45-40, advantage at the intermission and were aided by a solid effort off the bench which accounted for 23 points.
Thiel (1-2) returns to action on Tuesday when it visits Edinboro for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
