(Oct. 3, 2009) – The Thiel College volleyball team earned a pair of wins on Saturday, trumping Chatham, 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-13) and Bethany in similar fashion, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-23) at Beeghly Gymnasium. With the wins, the Tomcats improve to 13-7 overall and 4-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
In the day's opening match, freshman middle hitter
Kelly Barzak (Warren, Ohio/Howland) (Warren, Ohio/Howland) led the Thiel offense with 11 kills.
Ashley Donnelly (Ann Arbor, MI/Huron ) (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) and
Abbey Kiger (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) pitched in with eight scores apiece. Setter
Chelsea Meister (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) notched 29 assists.
Against Bethany,
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) (Girard, Ohio/Girard) and Barzak each fired 11 kills, while
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) registered 33 assists.
Kay and
Danielle Dwyer (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) teamed up to lead the Thiel defensive effort, coming up with 21 digs each.
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson-Milton) contributed 18 digs, while Chylik chipped in with 12.
