PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Oct. 24, 2009) – The Thiel College volleyball team returned to its winning ways with a, 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-12), Presidents' Athletic Conference victory at Chatham on Saturday.
The win kicked off a pivotal weekend for the Tomcats, as they visit to PAC-frontrunner Thomas More (21-9; 10-1 PAC) on Sunday for a tri-match, which also features perennial power Saint Vincent (19-8). It also marked an important milestone for coach Steve Brewer's squad, as it reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since the 1986 season.
Thiel is now 20-8 overall, including a 9-2 mark in league play.
Senior
Cyndi Metzler (Industry/Western Beaver) (Industry, Pa./Western Beaver) filled the role of offensive leader for the 'Cats by firing eight kills, while sophomore
Sarah Weikart (Washingtonville, Ohio/Leetonia) (Washingtonville, Ohio/Leetonia) chipped in six.
Freshman
Chelsea Meister (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center) paced Thiel in assists and digs with 21 and seven, respectively.
Thiel opens up tomorrow's slate with a 10 a.m. tangle with Thomas More and will take on Saint Vincent at noon.
