GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2009) – The Cardiac 'Cats have struck again.
The Thiel College volleyball team won its eighth consecutive match – and it second straight five-set match – to down the Saint Vincent Bearcats, 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 13-25, 25-22, 15-12), Tuesday night at Beeghly Gymnasium.
With the win, Thiel upped its record to 17-7, while the Bearcats – who had previously never lost to the Tomcats - fell to 17-8.
Sophomore
Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) and freshman
Alyssa Chine (North Jackson, Ohio/Jackson-Milton) each recorded 15 kills in the winning effort, while junior setter
Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) put up 40 assists.
Five Thiel players had outstanding defensive outings, registering 20 or more digs. Chine led the way with 30, followed by Kay with 27 and
Danielle Dwyer (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) with 25. Chylik and
Stephanie Shipley (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) posted 23 and 20, respectively.
The Tomcats welcome Waynesburg for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday. Thiel has posted a 6-1 mark in Greenville thus far this season.
