CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Thomas More shot over 65 percent in the second half to cruise to a, 88-64, victory over Thiel College in men's basketball action Wednesday night.
The Tomcats (2-16, 1-7 Presidents') were led by
Brandon Mirizio (West Middlesex,Pa./Kennedy Catholic), who scored 15 points in the loss. Three other Thiel players reached double digits –
Nick Sefscik (Allison Park,Pa/Shaler) scored 14 while
Cory Chaffee (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and
Sean Devinney (Arsenal, Pa., Central Catholic) each racked up 10.
Thomas More's Mark Tinklenberg – who converted all six of his shots from the field, including five from beyond the arc – poured in a game-high 19 points.
Thiel actually out-shot (53-52) and out-rebounded TMC (31-30), but was plagued by 21 turnovers, which the host Saints turned into 22 points. The Tomcats also sent Thomas More shooters to the line 30 times, where they converted at a 63-percent clip.
Thiel shot just over 42 percent as a team, while cashing in on just seven of 17 free throw attempts.
Saturday is an open date for the Tomcats – Thiel will return to action on Feb. 4 when they host the dreaded Bethany Bison.
