Erie, Pa. (Sept. 27, 2008) – A, 3-0, sweep over La Roche College highlighted the Thiel College women's volleyball team' s day at the Penn State Behrend Tri-match in Erie on Saturday. The Tomcats had the tables turned on them in their second match, falling to the host team, 3-0.
In the win over La Roche (25-20, 25-13, 25-12), Abbey Kiger (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) led Thiel with 15 kills and Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) set up 30 assists. Stephanie Shipley (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) paced the 'Cats defensively with 15 digs.
In the day's second match, Penn State Behrend nipped Thiel in the first two games, 25-22 and 26-24, before sealing the deal with a, 25-18, decision in the final set.
Three Thiel players accumulated double-digit digs in the match as Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) had 15, Chylik had 13, and Shipley has 25.
Chylik also chalked up 30 assists, while Kiger fired a team-high 11 kills.
The Tomcats (8-9, 4-1 PAC) return to action on Oct. 4 when they visit Westminster for a Presidents' Athletic Conference Tri-match, also featuring Grove City. Thiel needs just one Saturday to match its overall and PAC win totals from a season ago.
