GREENVILLE, Pa. (Feb. 1) -- Thiel College sophomore guard
Nick Sefcsik (Allison Park/Shaler) totaled 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, to go along with seven rebounds and four assists in the Tomcats' 82-66 victory over visiting Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio) Friday evening at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel (9-9) senior forward Joe Herrmann (Hartstown/Jamestown) (Hartstown/Jamestown) added 15 points, three rebounds and three assists while freshman forward Tommy Hall (Youngstown, Ohio/Campbell) (Youngstown, Ohio/Campbell) added 11 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Brandon Mirizio (West Middlesex/Kennedy Catholic) (West Middlesex/Kennedy Catholic) chipped in with nine points and five rebounds to go along with a career-best nine assists. The Tomcats finished shooting 50.8 percent (30-59) from the field and hit a season-high eight three-point attempts while totaling a 51-26 advantage on the glass.
Franciscan's (2-16) Matt Liedel had a game-high 25 points and five rebounds to pace the Barons. Nathan Stanton added 13 off of the bench and Ben Liedel chipped in with 12 points and six steals.
Thiel ran its first-half lead to as many as 17 (35-18) before heading into the break with a 45-29 lead. The Tomcats watched its second half lead grow to as many as 22 (66-44) before cruising to the 16-point win.
Thiel returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Wednesday, Feb. 6 when it travels to Bethany College. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
