Jackets' hot hand at the line dooms Thiel in 2OT

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Waynesburg outlasted Thiel, 105-104, Wednesday night in a double-overtime barnburner in men's basketball action at Beeghly Gymnasium. The tough loss dropped the Tomcats to 1-5 on the season, in what was the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Waynesburg upped its record to 3-2 overall with the win.
The hot-shooting Tomcats led by as many as 16 in the second period but the determined Yellow Jackets methodically chipped away at the formidable deficit – thanks in no small part to a 37-of-44 performance from the free throw line.
The contest's high point for Thiel came as the first overtime period drew to a close with the 'Cats on the short end of a 79-76 ledger.
With approximately two seconds left – seemingly in the game – a Thiel inbounds pass sailed to midcourt where players from both teams tipped the ball up for grabs. On its final descent, the rock found its way into the hands of sophomore #Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic)# who promptly sank the long three, whipping the House of Thrills into a frenzy.
The momentum carried over to the second OT period for the Tomcats, but Waynesburg's steady approach at the line proved a bit too sturdy.
Freshman #Roddy Fuller# led Thiel with 24 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Adams poured in 20 points of his own while pacing both teams with seven assists.
Dan Happe and Jeff Young each tallied 23 points to lead the Jackets. Young made his living at the line, converting on 13 of 15 opportunities.
Thiel returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Thomas More.
