Volleyball Salvages Split at Westminster Tri-match

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 4, 2008) – Thiel College salvaged a split Saturday in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Westminster's Buzz Ridl Gymnasium, falling to Westminster, 3-0, and by sweeping Grove City by the same margin.

In Thiel's afternoon opener against Westminster, the Titans retired the Blue and Gold – 25-21, 25-20, 25-20.  The homestanding Titans remained unbeaten in league play this weekend, improving to 7-0.

Abbey Kiger (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) and Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) (Girard, Ohio/Girard) each fired 13 kills in the loss, while Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) set up 31 assists and Stephanie Shipley (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) came up with 21 digs.

In the day cap, Thiel swept Grove City – 25-20, 25-16, 25-17 – to complete a season sweep of the Wolverines for the first time in recent memory.

On offense, Kiger once again led Thiel, blasting 21 kills in 46 attempts (.370), while Chylik bested her performance in the day's opening match by notching 36 assists.

The defensive load was shouldered by a foursome of Shipley (13), Kay (12), Chylik (12), and Kiger (10), who each managed double-digit digs.

Thiel (9-11; 5-3 PAC) returns to action on Wednesday when they host Waynesburg at 7 p.m.
