HIRAM, Ohio (Oct. 11, 2008) – The Thiel women's volleyball team won its 11th match of the season Saturday in salvaging a split at a tri-match hosted by Hiram College.

Thiel opened the day with a, 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-20, 25-13), win over Oberlin.  Oberlin barely staved off a sweep at the hands of the Tomcats with a two-point win in the third set.

Abbey Kiger (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) hammered down 24 kills to spark the Thiel offense, while Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) did her part by setting up 45 assists.  Megan Kay (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) also enjoyed an all-around solid match, highlighted by a team-high four service aces.

Stephanie Shipley (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) led the Thiel defense with 21 digs.

In the night cap, Thiel fell to the host Terriers, 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 16-25, 18-25).  Kiger once again paced the offense, this time with 19 kills.  Chylik registered 48 assists, bringing her total for the day to an impressive 93.

Shipley came up with a team-high 30 digs to pace the 'Cats.

Thiel (11-12; 6-3 PAC) returns to action – and league play – on Thursday when they host Bethany.
