THIEL MEN HANG ON TO POST 80-75 PAC WIN AT WAYNESBURG

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 26) -- Behind a 31 point, nine rebound effort from senior forward Joe Herrmann (Hartstown/Jamestown) (Hartstown/Jamestown), the Thiel College men's basketball squad recorded an 80-75 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road victory at Waynesburg University Saturday evening.

Thiel (7-9, 3-4) finished with a 40-21 advantage on the boards, including 14 offensive rebounds, and shot 58.2 percent (32-55) from the field. Freshman forward Tommy Hall (Youngstown, Ohio/Campbell) (Youngstown, Ohio/Campbell) scored 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting while sophomore guard Nick Sefcsik (Allison Park/Shaler) chipped in with 10.

Waynesburg's (7-10, 1-6) Tim Drakeley tallied a career-high 35 points on 10-of-18 shooting (8-of-11 3-PT) in the loss. Josh Parisi added 18 points, six rebounds and four assists. The Yellow Jackets shot 44.4 percent (24-54) from the field and 43.5 percent (10-23) from three-point range.

Thiel got off to a blistering start, going up 12-0 with just under 16 minutes to play in the first. A pair of Drakeley free throw at 9:41 mark tied the game at 24-24 and the Tomcats managed to go into the break with a 43-38 lead.

The Tomcats were able to stretch their lead to 13 (67-54) with 7:28 to play, but a 21-8 spurt by the Yellow Jackets, capped by a Drakeley three, tied the game at 71-71 with just over three minutes remaining. Herrmann scored four of Thiel's final eight points in the last 2:10 to close out the contest.

Thiel hosts Thomas More College on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
