GREENVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 28) -- The Thiel College men's basketball team saw 12 players register at least two points in Wednesday's 87-52 victory over Penn State Beaver at Beeghly Gymnasium. Senior forward Joe Herrmann (Hartstown/Jamestown) (Hartstown/Jamestown) finished with 24 points and four rebounds for the Tomcats.
Freshman forward Tommy Hall (Youngstown, Ohio/Campbell) (Youngstown, Ohio/Campbell) added 12 points, and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Devon Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./George Junior Republic) (Philadelphia/George Junior Republic) finished with five points and a career-best 10 assists, while freshman guard Nick Matviko (West Leechburg/Leechburg) (West Leechburg/Leechburg), sophomore guard Cory Chaffee (Erie/Villa Maria), junior guard Brandon Mirizio (West Middlesex/Kennedy Catholic) (West Middlesex/Kennedy Catholic) and freshman forward Alan George (Brunswick, Ohio/Saint Edward) (Brunswick, Ohio/St. Edward) each chipped in with seven.
Zach Fetchin finished with 16 points and seven rebounds for Penn State Beaver (0-5). Matt Franitti added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Tomcats (3-1) pushed their halftime lead to 47-25 before cruising to the 35-point win. Their 3-1 start is the best since 2002-03, when the squad started 5-1.
Thiel opens Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday, Dec. 1 when it hosts Waynesburg University. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
