Thiel College Athletics

Sam Oravec enters his first year at Thiel after joining the staff in July 2026. Oravec will specialize in the long jump, triple jump and hurdles.

Oravec comes to Greenville following a 4-year stint as an assistant coach at Fauquier High School in Virginia, where he led the school's efforts in the sprints, jumps and hurdles. During his tenure, the Falcons claimed the 2025 Virginia Boys 3A Outdoor State Championship after earning a third-place finish in 2024. The girls program finished as the Virginia 3A outdoor state runner-up in 2024 and 2026.

Oravec coached six individual state champions and 21 all-state athletes, while 53 of his student-athletes scored at state championship meets. Under his guidance, 13 student-athletes broke school records and 54 recorded top-10 performances in program history.

Oravec holds USA Track & Field (USATF) Level 1 coaching certificate as well as a USATF Level 2 Sports Science certification. He also holds an ALTIS Horizontal Jumps Mastery certificate and a Reflexive Performance Reset (RPR) Level 2 certification.

Collegiately, Oravec competed at Cornell University, primarily in the long jump, and served as a team captain during the 2020-21 season. He recorded a personal best of 7.41 meters and earned All-Ivy League honors during the 2019 outdoor season.

A native of Warrenton, Virginia, Oravec earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell in 2021.
