Sam Bauman is entering his third season as the head football coach at Thiel College in 2024.
Bauman led the Tomcats to three wins in 2023, the most since the 2016 team won four games.
Six Tomcats earned All-PAC accolades in 2023, led by Second Team selections Donelle Thomas and Luke Faber. Chase Lawler, Chad Morningstar, Justin Logan and Andrew Plowden were All-PAC Honorable Mention picks. Also in 2023, Jared Curcio, Pattison, Faber and Morningstar were Academic All-District honorees, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC).
In 2022, six Tomcats earned CSC Academic All-District honors while five garnered All-PAC recognition.
Bauman was the linebackers coach at the College of Wooster from 2013-21. He served as the team’s defensive coordinator from 2015-21 and was the special teams coordinator in 2013 and 2014.
Bauman was part of a new coaching staff at the College of Wooster in 2013 that took a two-win team in 2012 to seven wins in 2013. The 2013 team ranked fifth in the nation in Division III in turnover margin (+16).
In 2015 and 2021, Bauman’s defense ranked in the top 20 in forced fumbles. In 2019, the team ranked third in the country in red zone defense and 24th in scoring defense.
Bauman began his coaching career in 2010 as the assistant defensive backs coach at the University of Chicago, a position he held for two seasons. He also spent two seasons at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology as the team’s linebackers coach. He also served as the head junior varsity coach and video coordinator at Rose-Hulman.
Bauman received a master’s degree in physical education with a concentration in coaching from Indiana State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Beloit College.
