Amy Schafer

Amy Schafer is in her ninth year at Thiel College and was recently named Associate Director of Athletics.
 
Schafer began her tenure at Thiel in 2005 as head softball coach. The Tomcat softball team has combined for 99 wins and appeared in two Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournaments under Schafer’s tutelage. Schafer also coached 24 players to All-PAC accolades and had multiple players earn National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region honors, most recently in 2013 when catcher Danielle Massengill and second baseman Ashley Dolan were named to the All-Region Second Team.
 
Schafer has served as Thiel’s coordinator of CHAMPS/ life skills since 2007. She is also the Senior Woman Administrator, a position that she has held since 2009.
 
Schafer was named the athletics department compliance & eligibility director and assistant athletics director in 2012. She was also named the chair of the Health & Physical Education Department in 2012.
 
During her career at Thiel, Schafer has served on various on- and off-campus committees, including: the Division III Softball Regional Advisory Committee, the NFCA Top 25 Committee and the Thiel College NCAA Grant Writing Committee. She has also attended multiple conventions and seminars, including six NFCA conventions.
 
Schafer is a 2003 Bethany College alumna, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. She earned a master’s in sport management studies from California University of Pennsylvania in 2009.
 
As a student-athlete at Bethany, Schafer was a NCAA Division III All-American catcher in 2002 while earning First Team All-Region accolades in 2002 and 2003. She was also named an All-PAC First Team pick in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
 
In 2002, the Bethany Bison compiled a 32-10 record and won the PAC Championship. The Bison earned their second ever bid in the NCAA Tournament, won the Central Region and advanced to the NCAA Division III World Series for the first time in the softball program’s history.
 
Schafer was honored as a member of the NFCA All-Academic team in 2002 and was named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll in 2001 and 2002.
 
Upon graduating from Bethany, Schafer served as assistant softball coach at the College of Wooster. She also served as the recreation supervisor of the Gault Recreation & Fitness Center at Wooster.
