GREENVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 12) — The Thiel College men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a dominant 3-0 shutout victory over Hilbert Saturday night at Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field.
Prior to the match, The Blue and Gold honored seniors Grant Becker (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted), Kyle Benson (Roaming Shores, Ohio/Grand Valley), Davis Carson (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga), Aiden Davis (Poland, Ohio/Poland), Ryan Fisher (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley), Logan Gordon (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory), Zack Loeser (Long Island, N.Y./Rocky Point), Ashton Redmond (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg), Logan Smith (Girard, Pa./Girard), Bryce Stefanowicz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville), and Derek Thomas (Poland, Ohio/Poland).
Thiel opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Evan Haas (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) found the back of the net from yard for his first goal of the season. The Tomcats carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Just 3:33 into the second half, Peyton Kushon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) doubled Thiel's lead, scoring his first goal of the season off assists from Thomas and Mitchell Strauss (Bradford, Pa./Bradford Area).
Thiel continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, with Strauss finishing off the scoring in the 85th minute. Becker provided the assist on Strauss' first goal of the season.
The Tomcats controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting the Hawks 24-10 and putting seven shots on goal.
Strauss led the Tomcats offensively with nine shots and two shots on goal, while Gordon recorded four shots and Kushon with three. Haas added one goal on one shot on target. Becker, Strauss and Thomas each recorded an assist.
Defensively, Dylan Budziak (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) recorded his second shutout of the season, making one save in the full 90 minutes. The Tomcats limited Hilbert to just one shot on goal.
With the victory, Thiel improved to 2-3-0 on the season, while Hilbert fell to 0-4-0. The win also marked Thiel's first home victory of the 2026 season.
The Tomcats return to action Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they travel to Westminster for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
