GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College has expanded its summer tennis offerings by adding a new, more competitive United States Tennis Association Level 5 junior tournament to the Tomcat Tennis Tournament line up on July 25ā26 at the College's updated tennis complex.
The new event, a USTA Level 5 girls 18-and-under flighted tournament, will bring higher-level junior competition to Greenville and is one of a limited number of Level 5 tournaments offered through USTA Middle States this year.
Registration continues until July 16. Competitors must be USTA members. Junior memberships are free for players under age 19. Interested athletes can click here to register.
Players competing at Level 5 tournaments are awarded increasingly higher points for each win, including bonus points for victories against ranked opponents.
"USTA Middle States is only offering a limited number of Level 5 tournaments, so Thiel College appreciates the vote of confidence in being selected to offer this higher-level junior tournament," Tournament Director and Tomcat men's and women's tennis coach Anthony Kobak said.
The new event builds upon the success of the L6 Tomcat Tennis Tournament, a USTA Level 6 event entering its second year at Thiel College. Scheduled for July 11ā12, the tournament will feature boys and girls singles divisions for players ages 18 and under and 16 and under. Last year's event attracted competitors from several states, including Texas.
"The Greenville community will get to enjoy an even higher level of tennis with the addition of the USTA Level 5 girls 18-and-under tournament," Kobak said.
The tournaments continue to expand Thiel's role as a host site for regional athletic and youth events while showcasing the College's upgraded tennis facilities.
"Thiel athletics are grateful to First National Bank for its continued commitment to these summer youth tennis events," Director of Athletics Isaac Collins said. "The tournaments are a fantastic opportunity to showcase our top-notch tennis facility and the vibrant spirit of Thiel College."
Registration is open through July 5 for the Level 6 USTA event. Competitors must be USTA members and can click here to register.
