TRAFFORD, Pa. (Feb. 25) -- Four members of the Thiel College Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field teams were named Athletes to Watch by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) heading into the PAC Championships tomorrow.
On the men's side,
Zack Loeser (Long Island, N.Y./Rocky Point),
Aamiir Shaw (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) and
Nathaniel Turner (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Conneaut Area) made the list while
Cydney Wierzbowski (Derry, Pa./Derry) made the cut on the women's side.
Loeser has produced a solid junior campaign. His 1.89m mark in the high jump at last week's Mount Union Tune-Up was the sixth-best in the conference this season and sixth-best indoor mark in team history. Loeser has produced at least one top-eight finish in each of the last three meets.
Shaw has posted PRs in the 60m, 200m and 400m this winter. His 60m PR of 7.24 seconds sits in the top 25 of all PAC performers this season.
In distance, Turner has produced a pair of top-20 runs among all PAC runners this season. His 9:18.70 mark in the 3000m along with his 16:27.39 mark in the 5000m are the 18th- and 19th-best times, respectively, among PAC athletes.
In throws, Wierzbowski PRd in the weight throw at 11.96m to place 12th at the SPIRE Midwest Open on Jan. 24. That throw was the third-longest mark in Thiel Indoor history and was over a meter longer than her previous PR.
The Thiel men were picked to finish 11th while the women were picked 12th.
The PAC Indoor Championships will begin with field events Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) on the campus of Youngstown State.
