MEADVILLE, Pa. (Feb. 18) -- The Thiel College Men's Basketball team fell 68-60 at Allegheny College Wednesday evening in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) North Division clash from David V. WIse Center.
The Tomcats drop to 6-17 (3-12) while the Gators rise to 10-14 (8-7).
Thiel used an 8-3 spurt to get within 4 at 45-41 with 15:04 left in the second half on a
Khamari Accursio-Harris (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter) bucket. The two sides went scoreless over the next 3 minutes before a Gators bucket made it 47-41. The Cats answered with 4 straight on a pair of
Anthony Henderson II (Miramar, Fla./Somerset Academy) free throws and an Accursio-Harris jumper to make it 47-45 with 10:12 left.
Henderson II had a team-pacing 19 points on 7-of-13 from the field, 3-of-4 from deep and 2-of-2 at the line. He dished out three helpers. Accursio-Harris added 8 points along with five boards and assists each.
Allegheny quipped back with an 8-0 run that grew into a 14-2 spurt, making it 61-47 with 4:56 to go. Thiel made a late push as two buckets from Henderson II and
Das Sanders (Dallas, Texas/Fort Worth Christian) made it 61-53 with 2:58, but it was too little too late as the home side snuck away with the win.
Sanders posted 14 points on 6-of-10 to go with a team-high-tying six rebounds.
Thiel jumped to an early 10-5 lead as
Kadenne Kemp (Inglewood, Cali./Northgate (Pa.)) had 6 of Thiel's first 8 points. A
Kenny Ermat (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla./Boyd Anderson) bucket made it 14-12 Cats at the 11:43 mark while a
Logan Lentz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) jumper pulled Thiel within 2 at 33-31 with a minute left in the first half. The home side took a 35-31 lead into the locker room.
Kemp logged 8 points and five boards while Ermat recorded 6 points and rebounds each. Lentz chipped in 5 points and a trio of boards.
The Tomcats shot the ball at 48.1 percent from the field to the Gators 40.4 percent, but Allegheny canned nine 3-pointers to Thiel's three.
