NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Dec. 6) -- The Thiel College Women's Basketball team fell 71-40 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) clash at Westminster College Saturday afternoon on Ron Glabreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
The Tomcats dip to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in league play while the Titans rise to 3-5 (1-1).
Thiel used a 7-0 run to jump ahead 11-5 in the first quarter after
Issy Green (Slippery Rock, Pa./Portersville Christian) swiped a steal and connected on a fastbreak layup. Green had 3 points in the run while
Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) and
Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) each added 2.
Risser led Thiel with 13 points on 6-of-15. She grabbed a contest-leading eight boards while logging three steals and a pair of blocks.
Green added 6 points, five boards and two steals. Stephens pitched in 4 points and grabbed six boards.
An
Emily Betsinger (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) jumper gave Thiel a 14-13 edge at the 6:25 mark of the second quarter. The home side went on to tally 18 of the final 20 points in the quarter to take a 31-16 lead into the half.
Betsinger notched 11 points on 5-of-8 from the field and 1-of-1 from deep to go with five boards.
Westminster outscored Thiel 39-25 in the final 20 minutes en route to the win.
Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) saw her first collegiate hardwood action and recorded 4 points on 2-of-2 in the final minute.
Thiel is back in action Monday for a home non-league showdown with Penn State Beaver at 7:30 p.m.
