GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's tennis team defeated the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets 6-3 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match Friday evening.
Thiel won all three doubles matches. At first doubles,
Toby Atwood (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) and
Payton Blankenbeckley (Portsmouth, Ohio/Minford) topped Julia Corey and Julia Luzar, 8-6.
Emily Peters (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna) and
Mei Williams (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington Area) won 8-3 at second doubles over Karly Starcher and Claire Lace. At third doubles,
Madi Yurich (Harmony, Pa/Seneca Valley) and
Morgan Gerber (Millersburg, Ohio/Strasburg-Franklin) edged Alli Bailey and Aubrey Burns, 8-6.
Atwood defeated Corey 6-3, 7-5 at first singles while Blankenbeckley beat Starcher 6-1, 6-1 at second singles. Yurich won 6-2, 6-3 at fifth singles.
Blankenbeckley, Gerber and Yurich were recognized Friday during Senior Day.
The Tomcats will host the Allegheny Gators Tuesday. The PAC match is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
