GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team tied the Defiance Yellow Jackets, 1-1, in a non-conference match at Alumni Stadium Friday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets broke the deadlock 28 minutes into the match after Melissa Bixler finished a shot off of a rebound.
The Tomcats, however, would equalize right before halftime when
Allie Kidder (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) found
Jenna Murrey (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) in the box, who then calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.
The second half finished in a stalemate, as neither team were able to get anything going.
Thiel outshot Defiance 10-8, but the Yellow Jackets had the edge in shot on goal (6-5).
For the Yellow Jackets, Bixler led the way with two shots on goal, including one goal. Haley Hughes recorded four shots, three of which were on target.
For the Tomcats, Murrey scored her fourth goal of the season, while Kidder recorded her first assist of the season. Murrey also had five shots, with three being on goal. Freshman
Alana Rudolf (Springdale, Pa./Springdale) also recorded a shot on goal.
In net for Thiel,
Samantha Hoffman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) recorded five saves. Her counterpart, Sarah O'Shea recorded four saves for Defiance.
The Tomcats return to action on Sunday as they continue their four game homestand against Heidelberg at Alumni Stadium. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
