GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Franciscan Barons, 76-43, Saturday afternoon at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Franciscan outscored the Tomcats 24-12 in the first quarter. However, the Tomcats opened the second quarter with a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to four. Franciscan had a response, going on a 6-0 run to take the lead back up to double digits.
Thiel went into halftime trailing Franciscan 36-29.
A 40-14 second half scoring spree would seal the win for Franciscan.
Thiel was led by junior guard
Lexy Wagner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) who recorded 14 points and four rebounds. Freshman guard
Jensen Stehlik (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Stehlik shot 50 percent (5-10) from the field, including 50 percent (2-4) from three-point range.
Taylor Susany (Struthers, Ohio/Struthers),
Josie Lewis (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) and
Jah'nya Dorsey (Warren, Ohio/LaBrae) all notched five points apiece.
Franciscan was led by Mikayla Doan, who notched a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Caroline Reed recorded 16 points, while Maria McCallen recorded 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Tomcats return to action on Tuesday when the host the Saint Vincent Bearcats. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
