Tomcats beat Yellow Jackets

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team won a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets Monday, 60-59.

Thiel opened the game on a 10-0 run and held a 33-25 lead at halftime. The Yellow Jackets won the third quarter 15-9, but the Tomcats held onto a two-point lead (42-40) heading into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, Anika Dansby put the Yellow Jackets up 47-44 on a three-pointer with 6:35 remaining, but the Tomcats tied up the game on their next possession on one of Lexy Wagner's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) three treys. The game went back-and-forth the rest of the way until Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) completed a three-point play with 58 seconds to go to give the Tomcats a three-point lead that they would not surrender.

Wagner led the Tomcats with 14 points, tying her career-high. She also contributed five assists, two steals and two rebounds. Destiny Merriwether (Youngstown, Ohio/East) scored 12 points to match her career high. She also corralled 10 rebounds to record a double-double.

Shayla Foster (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) and Giana Arnese (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale) scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Johnson grabbed 12 rebounds and scored nine points.
