Tomcats go 3-1 at Dr. Si Ostrach Duals

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Thiel College wrestling team went 3-1 Saturday at the Dr. Si Ostrach Duals, hosted by Case Western Reserve University.
 
Thiel opened the day with a 34-14 loss to Albion before defeating Adrian (31-10), Penn (28-23) and Defiance (30-21).
 
Thiel trailed Penn 23-22 heading into the final bout at 285 pounds, which allowed Seth Phillips (Hubbard, Ohio/Western Reserve) to win the match for the Tomcats when he pinned Billy Bumbarger in 2:43. Phillips went 2-0 on the day with a pair of pins.
 
Thiel led Defiance by six points (24-18) with two bouts remaining, but Braydon Herbster (Linesville, Pa./Reynolds) sealed the win for the Tomcats when he pinned Jack Minner in 1:44 at 197.
 
Peyton Hearn (Conneaut, Pa./Conneaut Area) led the Tomcats with a 4-0 record Saturday. At 149, Hearn won by technical fall (20-2) over Albion's Max Honiss. He also defeated Adrian's Blaise Kokkales by technical fall (18-0). Hearn won by major decision (9-1) over Penn's Noah Hunt before pinning Defiance's Shamique Bryant in 1:50.
 
Evan Whiteside (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway), Hunter E. Thompson (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) and Frank Gill (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) each went 3-1 Saturday.
 
The Tomcats (8-2, 1-0 PAC) will take on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets on the road on Friday. The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
