BRADFORD, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team went 2-0 Saturday in a tri-match at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Thiel defeated St. John Fisher 26-21 and Pitt-Bradford 31-17.
The Tomcats trailed the St. John Fisher Cardinals 21-4 but finished the match with bonus points in each of the final four bouts, including three pins, to steal the win.
Frank Gill (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) got the Tomcats started when he pinned Zachary Miller at 174 in 2:23. At 184,
Bryce McCloskey (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) pinned Nathan Coon in 4:26.
Braydon Herbster (Linesville, Pa./Reynolds) got the Tomcats within a point (21-20) when he won by major decision (12-0) over Jack Lestrange at 197.
Seth Phillips (Hubbard, Ohio/Western Reserve) finished up the comeback win for the Tomcats when he pinned Luke Cawley in 1:12.
Gill pinned Pitt-Bradford's Colton Gietler in 3:26 at 174 while McCloskey won by technical fall (16-1) over Kyle Keefe at 184.
Hunter E. Thompson (Titusville, Pa./Titusville), Gill, McCloskey and Herbster all went 2-0 Saturday. Gill recorded a pair of pins while McCloskey won with a pin and a technical fall.
The Tomcats will host the Washington & Jefferson Presidents on Tuesday. The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match will begin at 7 p.m.
