GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats went 2-0 Saturday at the Mel Berry Duals, which were hosted by Thiel College at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats defeated the Muskingum Fighting Muskies 51-0 in their first match of the day before topping the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks 42-9. Jamestown went 1-1 on the day after defeating Muskingum 15-3.
Seven Tomcats went 2-0 on the day, led by
Evan Whiteside (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) who won both of his 125-pound bouts by fall. Whiteside pinned Muskingum's Noah Houchins in 2:05 and JCC's DeAonte Hutchinson in 1:48. He also won an exhibition bout against Muskingum's Hunter Heck in 4:07.
Alexander Anderson (Warren, Pa./Warren),
Logan Long (North Bend, Pa./Central Mountain),
Peyton Hearn (Conneaut, Pa./Conneaut Area),
Frank Gill (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and
Bryce McCloskey (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) all went 2-0 for the Tomcats with one pin apiece.
Hunter E. Thompson (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) also went 2-0 with a technical fall.
Thiel (4-0) will host the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Wednesday. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
