Tomcats make fourth quarter comeback, eliminated in OT

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Tomcats' women's basketball team was defeated by the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets, 72-67 (OT) in the first round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament.
 
In the first half, Waynesburg led most of the way, but Thiel kept it close as Waynesburg led 31-28 at halftime. Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) logged nine points and Indea Phillips (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) logged nine rebounds in the first half.
 
In the second half, Waynesburg kept the momentum and went up by 10 (47-37) to end the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets looked to be in control, leading by 12 with just 6:00 remaining regulation.
 
The Tomcats stepped up, scoring eight straight points on two three-pointers from Rachel Breckenridge (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) and a layup by Emily Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva). The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 59-51 with 3:51 left. The Tomcats responded, going on another run to take a 60-59 lead with 1:48 to play. Breckenridge hit two more threes and a free throw during the run and Colleen Trainer (Latrobe, Pa./Mount Pleasant) added a layup. Two layups put the Yellow Jackets up 63-60 with 20 seconds left. With the game on the line and one second left, Rachel Breckenridge (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) drew a shooting foul and had a chance to tie the game with three free throws. She sunk all three and sent the game to overtime.
 
In the overtime period, the Yellow Jackets took the lead early and did not look back. After scoring the first points of OT, Waynesburg kept the lead the rest of the game.
 
Rachel Breckenridge (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) led the Tomcats with 21 points on five three-pointers. 18 of her 21 points were scored in the fourth quarter. Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) recorded 18 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Indea Phillips (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) led the Tomcats with 13 rebounds, which is a new career-high for Phillips. Emily Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) notched a career and team high five steals.
 
The Yellow Jackets were led by 18 points from Andrea Orlosky. Marley Wolf also added 16 points. Brooke Fuller finished with a double-double on 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Tomcats were eliminated from the PAC Championship Tournament and the Yellow Jackets will move on to face the top-seeded Saint Vincent Bearcats in the quarterfinals on Monday.
