Tomcats earn first PAC win of season over Titans

Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team defeated the Westminster Titans, 58-52, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game Saturday afternoon.
 
The first quarter began with a 9-0 run by the Titans. The Tomcats closed the gap and trailed by just five after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Tomcats took control, gained their first lead of the game, and led 29-23 entering halftime. The Tomcats outscored the Titans 17-6 in the quarter.
 
In the second half, the Titans answered and closed the gap in the third quarter. There were six lead changes in the quarter as the Tomcats led 42-41 entering the final quarter. In the fourth, the Tomcats began with seven straight points as part of a 11-2 run to give the Tomcats a 53-43 lead. The Titans cut the Tomcats lead to just three with a minute remaining, but Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) made three of four free throws to help close out the Tomcats' 58-52 victory.
 
Johnson led the game with a career-high 27 points and made 8-of-9 free throws. She also recorded a season-high 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season with two assists and a block. Emily Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) led the game with six assists and four steals and added six points and three rebounds. Rachel Breckenridge (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) scored eight points. Sha'nia Stiers-Royal (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown-Fitch) and Lexy Wagner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) each tallied six points. Stiers-Royal notched three boards as well.
 
For the Titans, Natalie Murrio recorded 27 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Magen Polczynski scored eight points with three assists and four rebounds.
 
The Tomcats' next game will be a non-conference game Monday against the Penn State DuBois Nittany Lions. The home game is scheduled for 8 p.m.
