BETHANY, W.Va. – The Thiel College women's soccer team defeated the Bethany Bison, 2-1 (OT), in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Saturday.
The two teams were scoreless for the first 80 minutes until the Bison broke the tie at the 80:09 mark. Just over a minute later at the 81:37 mark, Thiel junior
Arlene Barreto (Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat Memorial) tied the game at one to force overtime. Three minutes into overtime, Barreto struck again to give the Tomcats a 2-1 victory.
For the Tomcats, Barreto scored twice, with the game-tying and game-winning goals.
Bailey Fritz (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) assisted Barreto on the game-tying goal.
Samantha Hoffman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) tallied seven saves and allowed just one goal in the win.
For the Bison, Jayda Larsen assisted Kaitlin Pickett for a goal. Kristen Collins recorded five saves and did not allow a goal in 76:37.
The Tomcats will look to keep momentum going when they take on the Washington & Jefferson Presidents at Alumni Stadium on Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
