BETHANY, W.Va. – The Thiel College women's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game in overtime to the Bethany Bison Wednesday at Hummel Field House, 63-57.
Thiel trailed at halftime (24-21) but took a 43-40 lead into the fourth quarter after outscoring Bethany 22-16 in the third frame.
The Tomcats led by as many as four points in the fourth quarter, but the Bison took the lead 48-46 midway through the fourth after Abbey Dobbins scored on a jumper. After blocking a shot,
Rachel Breckenridge (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) put Thiel back on top 49-48 with 1:49 remaining in regulation when she connected on a three-pointer.
Courtney Walker tied up the game 49-49 on a free throw with 39 seconds left in the fourth quarter. On Thiel's next possession, freshman guard
Nielah Jones (Baltimore, Md./Catholic ) put her team back up 51-49 after scoring on a jump shot with 10 seconds remaining, but Dobbins sent the game to overtime when she scored on a putback as time expired.
Bethany began overtime on an 8-0 run and held on to win the PAC game, 63-57.
Courtney Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) led the Tomcats with 18 points. She made 6-of-9 shots from the floor and went 4-of-6 from three-point range. Harriman also recorded five steals, two assists and two rebounds. Breckenridge chipped in with 15 points.
Kelsie Meintel led the Bison with 19 points and nine rebounds. Allison Kuhn recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Walker scored 10 points and corralled six rebounds.
The Tomcats will host the Washington & Jefferson Presidents Saturday at Beeghly Gymnasium. The PAC game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
