CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Thiel College wrestling team lost a 27-24 non-conference dual match to the Case Western Reserve Spartans on Wednesday.
Freshman
Cameron Prebble (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) got the Tomcats going early with a 16-0 tech fall at 174 pounds. At 184,
Landon Westover (Canton, Ohio/Field) pinned Stephen Andryc in 1:37 to give Thiel an 11-0 lead after the second bout of the match.
The Spartans won the next three bouts by decision and two pins taking a 15-11 lead heading into the 133 weight class bout.
Jake Alberts (Ellwood City/Lincoln ) earned a 9-1 major decision over Duncan Clayton while
Jason Baker (New Alexandria, Pa. /Derry Area) recorded Thiel's second tech fall over Manhattan Gatton to regain the lead 20-15 going into the 149 weight class bout.
Case Western Reserve won two of the final three bouts, both by pin, to seal the win.
The Tomcats will open up Presidents' Athletic Conference competition on Thursday, January 16 when they host the Washington & Jefferson Presidents. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
