Bearcats best Tomcats

Johnson collects 14th double-double of season

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Saint Vincent Bearcats Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Gymnasium, 94-74.
 
Thiel trailed 24-17 after one quarter of play but went on a 16-9 run in the second quarter to tie up the game 33-33 with 3:53 remaining before halftime. The Tomcats went on to take a 36-33 lead with 2:39 left before halftime after Colleen Trainer (Latrobe, Pa./Mount Pleasant) made a free throw and a layup. However, the Bearcats closed the first half on a 13-0 run to hold a 10-point lead (46-36) at halftime.
 
Thiel won the third quarter 26-24, but the Bearcats pulled away in the fourth frame.
 
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) led Thiel with 19 points while contributing seven rebounds and five assists. Freshman forward Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) notched her 14th double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Johnson also handed out six assists.
 
Thiel senior guard Courtney Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) scored a season-best 11 points. Trainer finished with nine points and five rebounds off the bench while Alivia Sidley (Thompson, Ohio/Ledgemont) scored eight points.
 
Madison Kollar scored a game-high 35 points for the Bearcats and also came up with nine rebounds. Maria Morgan and Kayla Slovenec scored 11 points apiece.
 
The Tomcats will host the Bethany Bison Wednesday at Beeghly Gymnasium. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
